Course location: Pelham Campus Brighton & Hove City College.

Course aims: This is the first step you need to take towards becoming an electrician if you do not have GCSEs at grade C or equivalent in Maths or English. It gives an essential practical and theoretical background in subjects such as wiring and testing electrical circuits, working safely in an electro-technical environment and electronic assembly. Successful completion of this course will enable you to study CG2330 Level 2 Technical Certificate in Electrotechnical Technology (full or part time) and other related courses.

Course content: This course includes opportunities for you to develop your English, Maths and/or ICT skills, as appropriate. You will be expected a complete Key Skills qualifications as part of your course.

Assembling Electronic Components
Servicing Electrical/Electronic Equipment and Systems
Wiring Electrical Circuits
Working Safely in an Engineering Environment
Using and Communicating Technical Information

Assessment: The course is approximately two-thirds practical and one-third theory.

Entry Requirements: You should have a minimum of 3 GCSEs at grade D or equivalent (including Maths and English). This includes a full Entry Level qualification including a relevant Entry 3 literacy or numeracy qualification.

Progression and links: Successful completion will enable you to study CG2330 Level 2 Technical Certificate in Electrotechnical Technology (full or part-time) and other related courses.
